Sophie Marjanac
Sophie Marjanac is an internationally recognised climate litigation expert whose work has helped shape the development of environmental law and corporate climate accountability. During nearly a decade at ClientEarth (2015–2024), she was instrumental in establishing the organisation’s climate litigation programme, leading groundbreaking legal challenges against governments and multinational corporations. Her work includes the landmark human rights case Billy v Australia, brought on behalf of Indigenous Torres Strait Islanders, pioneering legal action against corporate greenwashing, and a world-first claim against the board of directors of Shell plc. An Australian-qualified lawyer with extensive experience in environmental law, human rights, and corporate climate risk, Sophie is currently Director of Legal at Redwater Insights and serves on the board of investigative climate journalism organisation DeSmog UK. As editor of Turning the Tide, she brings first-hand experience of landmark litigation, an international network of legal expertise, and a unique understanding of the people and legal strategies transforming climate justice.
