About Papadakis

Award-winning independent publishing since 1967

Papadakis is an award-winning independent publishing house creating visually exceptional books across art, science, nature, culture and ideas.

Family-led and creatively driven since 1967, we collaborate with leading voices and institutions to produce books of lasting value – books that inform and inspire.

“Each book a universe of its own”

From the infinitesimally small to the cosmically vast, Papadakis publishes books that open worlds, foster dialogues, and connect communities. At a time when questions of climate, culture, and creativity feel ever more urgent, our programme seeks to bring together voices that underscore the value of gathering people around shared visions of the future.

Our publishing is defined by rigorous research, exceptional visual storytelling, and meticulous production values. Each title is developed with a strong sense of identity – intellectually ambitious, beautifully made, and always designed to resonate far beyond the page.

A distinguished publishing legacy

Founded by Dr Andreas Papadakis and built on the legacy of Academy Editions, the company has a distinguished history of publishing landmark works in architecture, design, and the decorative arts.

Through Academy Editions and Architectural Design Magazine (AD), Papadakis published early and influential works by some of the most important architects of the twentieth century – Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind, Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, Léon Krier, Charles Jencks, Bernard Tschumi, and others whose ideas helped shape contemporary architecture. An early publication, Art Nouveau – The French Aesthetic, by Victor Arwas, remains the leading work on the subject.

Under the directorship of his daughter, Alexandra Papadakis, the list has further evolved into a dynamic and globally recognised programme.

Working with world-leading institutions

We continue to collaborate with internationally respected institutions: CERN, The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Science Museum, The Gaia Foundation, SPRI, Coastal Conservation League, Tribes Alive, and ClientEarth.

Our programme is shaped through close collaboration with writers, artists, scientists, and photographers whose work contributes to contemporary cultural conversations.

Our landmark titles – including Seeds, The Large Hadron Collider Pop-Up Book, Industrial Scars, Blue Ice, and Microcosms – Sacred Plants of the Americas – exemplify this approach.

International recognition

Papadakis has received international recognition for excellence in publishing, design, and cultural impact, and in 2025 we were named Best Publisher in the World at the Gourmand International Book Awards.

Our Philosophy

Publishing, for us, is both an art and an act of stewardship: a way of preserving ideas, amplifying voices, and creating objects of enduring beauty and significance.

We are committed to publishing with imagination, integrity, lasting collaborations, and to the transformative power of ideas and design. Each of our books is conceived not simply as a publication, but as a universe of its own.
